After a solid season sailing S.V. Arrested and chasing down most of the gremlins, a few stubborn items are still sitting on the to‑do list. Boats being boats, there’s always something — but these are the ones that matter before next season’s adventures.
Autopilot Troubles
The autopilot has been unreliable for a while, and after a proper rain soaking on the run into Dunmore East, it’s now refusing to work at all. Hand‑steering is fine for short hops, but not ideal for longer passages.
Considering Wind‑Vane Steering
As an alternative — or maybe a future upgrade — I’m tempted by wind‑vane steering. It’s simple, mechanical, power‑free, and perfect for extended coastal or offshore runs. Not essential, but definitely a “nice to have” that keeps whispering to me.
The Not‑So‑Dripless Stern Gland
The so‑called “dripless” stern gland still insists on dripping when under power. The irony isn’t lost on me. It’s not a crisis, but it’s something that needs sorting before it becomes one.
AIS Visibility Quirk
AIS targets show perfectly on the chartplotter, but Navionics refuses to display them. Not a safety issue — just an annoyance — but it’s another small job to chase down when time and patience align.
